The office redesign for Canadian law firm Stikeman Elliott introduces innovative working methods and enhances the employee and visitor experience by blending hospitality and high-end residential design into a modern, equitable workplace. Moving to a new space across two levels at Bankers Hall in Calgary, the firm sought to update its office to better reflect its identity and reputation.
A standout feature of the redesign is using Banker M44-2 decorative wire mesh throughout the space, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication. This design element is prominently featured in the U-shaped internal staircase, which connects the two levels and is adorned with a gold-gilded canopy. The woven wire mesh powder coated in Emperors Gold enhances the aesthetic appeal and aligns with the firm’s vision of a welcoming and modern environment.
Led by Kasian Architecture and Interior Design, the redesign addresses the unique needs of a law office, such as enhanced privacy and various meeting room sizes, while merging traditional office planning with a future-forward vision. The goal was to create an equitable office layout that benefits everyone, from partners to legal assistants to admin staff.
Inspired by hospitality design, the office features finishes modeled after the Ritz Carlton, reflecting a commitment to creating an approachable and professional environment. This approach was guided by a commitment to creating an equitable, approachable, and professional environment while reflecting the firm’s identity and serious nature of work.
The golden M44-2 wire mesh is crucial in achieving this elegant vision, adding a luxurious yet modern touch to the space. The development and fabrication of the stair shroud involved a local industrial designer, ensuring structural soundness and aesthetic appeal.
