nternational firm YODEZEEN has completed ‘Sierra House,’ an architecturally provocative residence built with raw natural materials near Kyiv, Ukraine. Located in a lush, rural region outside Kyiv, the residence is an impressive 2500 square meters (approx. 8,202 square feet) and presents a bold and modern design that seamlessly integrates raw natural materials like basalt, corten, and glass. The minimalist approach to the design is characterized by sharp lines and cubic forms that exude confidence and strength. The architects explain that the design vision is reflected in the houses’ uncommonly sharp corners, cubic shapes, and rigorous materials. Approximately 30% of the façade features basalt, skillfully processed by local craftsmen from Lutsk, Ukraine. Corten steel is another defining material that offers a striking contrast against the stone. At the same time, the floor-to-ceiling glass walls allow natural light to illuminate the space and foster a sense of openness.The planning of the Sierra Hose was thoughtfully considered, with the basement floor designated for technical areas and staff, the main level comprising shared spaces like the kitchen and living room, and the third floor accommodating the bedrooms. The landscape design was diligently incorporated during the visualization stage, ensuring a symbiotic relationship between the architecture and the outdoor areas. Spacious terraces offer opportunities for relaxation, barbecuing, and taking in the surroundings. The use of exclusively natural materials, meticulously designed lighting systems, and numerous bespoke solutions add to the allure of the interior spaces. From the living room with its basalt–textured wall and designer lamps to the luxurious grey marble kitchen with warm wood accents, each detail has been considered to create a space that balances comfort, elegance and functionality. Sierra House follows recently completed and upcoming projects by the prolific architecture and design studio, including Bal Harbour Club in Miami, two new residential villas in Aspen and Madrid, penthouse apartments in Miami, and a luxury resort in Maldives.
