A stunning circular stage designed for a Balenciaga Spring Summer 2020 show, featuring a perfect blend of industrial modernity and classical artistry. The focal point of the scene is a Renaissance-style sculpture of a grieving angel, intricately detailed, sculpted in pristine white marble. This angel hangs dramatically from the high industrial ceiling, approximately 10 meters tall, suspended by heavy, metallic chains. The chains, visible and robust, emphasize the raw industrial aesthetic while contrasting the delicate beauty of the sculpture.
The entire space is bathed in cold, vibrant Klein blue light, emanating from a structured grid of rectangular lighting panels on the ceiling. The light casts sharp, dramatic shadows on the angel’s wings and flowing drapery, intensifying its presence. Surrounding the stage, floor-to-ceiling curtains in deep Klein blue ripple slightly, framing the space with an ethereal softness that contrasts the stark industrial elements.
The seating is arranged in concentric circles around the stage, using minimalist, modern chairs in muted tones to maintain the focus on the center. The floor is carpeted in a matching Klein blue, creating a seamless, immersive monochromatic environment.
The atmosphere is hauntingly dramatic, with the angel sculpture suspended as if frozen in mid-air, evoking a sense of otherworldly beauty. The combination of cold lighting, textured curtains, exposed metallic chains, and visible industrial elements like air ducts and cables creates a surreal, ephemeral setting that perfectly embodies avant-garde theatricality
