This portrait of James Huntington hangs in Holy Cross Monastery in West Park, New York, which he founded in 1884. OHC is a major American religious order for men, with additional monasteries in California, Ontario and South Africa. Huntington was the son of a bishop of Central New York, followed his father into the priesthood, worked with immigrants on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, then felt a call to the monastic life. The monastery in West Park was the first new building for an Anglican religious order since Henry VIII. (artist unknown)
