Project Design Concept
The Marbrisa House was designed to blend seamlessly with the natural beauty of its surroundings. Lautner’s concept was to create a space that felt open and connected to the ocean, sky, and mountains. The design features a large open terrace that offers breathtaking views of Acapulco Bay, giving the impression of floating above the water.
Site Plan and Accessibility
The house is perched on a hilltop, providing uninterrupted views of the bay. The main living quarters are on the upper level, with an expansive open-air terrace encircled by a “sky moat” that enhances the feeling of infinite space. The bedrooms are located on the level below.
Interaction with Topography
The building is designed to work with the steep topography of the site. The structure is anchored into the hill at one end, with a sweeping concrete roof that extends over the other end and back to the hill. This design allows the house to blend with the natural slope of the land.
