A fire was raging in the double city. It was burning, it was moving forward, leaving a series of brilliant fountains and explosions; people were going crazy and talking about God. The whole bay was already ablaze. The piers were burned to the ground, and a gigantic black mystical pirate black ship, a ghost of the 17th century with black tattered sails, was moving along the wave on the sea, setting fire to the coastal palaces and pavilions along the way. Sparks floated on the wind and fell far beyond the river, into quiet gardens and among the haystacks. The smoke from this huge, magnificent fire rose many miles into the air.
