Architectural Design Contest: Modern 2-Story House – Western Australia Overview: We invite skilled architects with a flair for innovative design to participate in our contest. The goal is to create a practical and efficient modern-style 2-story house. The house will be constructed on a generously sized piece of land (18m frontage by 34m length). Requirements: 1. Design Concept: o Develop a captivating concept that balances aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability. o Consider the needs of future occupants, natural light, ventilation, and spatial flow. 2. Architectural Features: o Two stories: Explore creative ways to maximize space vertically. o Modern aesthetics: Incorporate clean lines, large windows, and contemporary materials. o Outdoor spaces: Design balconies, terraces, or a garden area. 3. Required Facilities: o Land size = 18m frontage by 34m length, Frontage is in the Northern direction. o Main view is North (frontage), and West/south (only from second floor). Ocean view is at the west side (from 2nd floor) o Away from ocean by ~ 300m o Garage ramp at the left side of the frontage (East) o Land is elevated by ~ 1.0m from the front walkway, 1.85m from the western neighbor, 4.4m from the southern neighbor and lower by ~1.5m from the neighbor at the east. (See RL PLAN) o Design would include:  1 master bedroom with a WR (1 for her & 1 for him),  4 ensuit bedrooms (bedroom with attached bathroom)  1 kitchen and scullery in the ground level  1 small kitchen in the 2nd floor.  Garage for 2 cars (3 will be an advantage), with storage room and bathroom. other rooms/spaces:  Theatre,  Activity,  Office,  Living,  Alfresco. o 7- thoughts about swimming pool, considering its privacy (at the west or south side). o building area around 300m2 for the ground floor and => 200m2 for second floor. 4. Practicality and Efficiency: o Optimize floor plans for efficient use of space. o Energy-efficient design: Consider insulation, orientation, and passive solar principles. o Smart home features: Integrate technology for convenience and sustainability. 5. Materials and Finishes: o Suggest suitable materials for the facade, roofing, flooring, and interior finishes. o Balance aesthetics, durability, and cost-effectiveness. 6. Land Considerations: o Utilize the 18m frontage and 34m length effectively. o Address any site-specific challenges (e.g., slope, orientation, neighboring structures). 7.
